
Dr. Diorio received his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Alabama, specializing in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. He received his Masters in Public Health (M.P.H.) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, specializing in Maternal and Child Health.
Dr. Diorio has over 25 years of experience in both community and facility
settings, providing specialized services and clinical treatment to individuals
with intellectual and developmental disabilities. He has worked for 12 years
at the Northern Virginia Training Center (NVTC) in Fairfax, Virginia. Dr.
Diorio's leadership was instrumental in establishing the Northern Virginia
Regional Community Support Clinic (RCSC), an innovative outpatient program
that provides medical, dental and allied clinical health services to individuals
with intellectual and developmental disabilities who live in the Northern
Virginia area. The RCSC also provides specialized training to community staff
and families. NVTC has relationships with 30 regional universities to provide
internships and practicum to students interested in getting clinical experience
and hands-on training providing services to individuals with special needs.
The 2002 U.S. Surgeon General's Panel on Health Care Disparities in Mental
Retardation recognized the RCSC as one of 21 model programs for innovative
health care in the United States for persons with intellectual and developmental
disabilities.
