How Can You Make A Difference?
One-On-One Interaction with Residents: (Schedule is arranged)
Get to know and befriend residents. Activities include walks, reading, talking, swimming, arts & crafts.
Special Events: (Times and days vary-see current Special Event brochure)
Assist residents in attending on campus special events such as dances, concerts and holiday parties. Many residents are in wheelchairs and cannot get to the events by themselves.
Sponsor An Event: (Best for large groups or service organizations)
If you belong to a club, organization, school or church, we welcome event "sponsorship". Check with your human resources office at work to see if your company promotes volunteering in the community. Ours does!
Adaptive Aquatics: (Thursday evenings from 6:45-8:30pm)
Assist a resident with swimming in our indoor heated pool. This is among our residents' favorite activities!
Literacy Program: (Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30pm)
Read to residents in groups and/or individually.
Birthday Buddies: (Best for large groups, service organizations or families)
Bake a cake or bring a balloon for a resident and make his or her day
all the more special!
Resident Outings: (Times and needs vary-contact Volunteer Services)
Residents enjoy getting off campus for outings, but cannot do this without assistance.
Internship Opportunities: (For college students)
Occupational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, Physical Therapy or Psychology. Contact NVTC for more information.
Special Olympics Training: (Monday evenings from 7:30-8:30pm)
Assist residents in training for events like track & field, swimming, basketball & soccer.
