The purpose of the Behavior Management Committee (BMC) is to review, at least semi-annually, all client programs involving restrictive techniques and/or psychotropic medication orders as defined by Medicaid and Human Rights Regulations.
The composition of the Committee will be senior professional staff of the Center and the intention of the reviews is:
- To assure that all programs presented adhere to Medicaid and other applicable regulations and follow state-of-the-art practices in managing inappropriate behavior; that all restrictive programs are a part of a total program that emphasizes positive practices.
- To assure that restrictive programs are only used when less restrictive methods have been demonstrated to be ineffective or when needed to prevent injury to the client or others; to assure the efficacy of the program through a review of the data.
- To assure that the maximum respect is maintained for the client's dignity and opportunity for self regulation.
- To assure that all programs presented have senior clinical level input by professionals other than behavior management specialists.
- To provide a forum for continuing education and peer consultation for professionals involved in the design of training programs for maladaptive behaviors.
