The Northern Virginia Training Center (NVTC) is one of five regional state facilities for the developmentally disabled in the Commonwealth of Virginia and provides services to northern Virginia jurisdictions.

NVTC grounds cover 85 acres of woods and lawns. There is a walking trail, sports court, picnic pavilion, indoor swimming pool and a variety of gazebos and picnic areas.
The Administration Building pictured is home to Human Resources, Residential Services, Medical & Nursing, Pharmacy, Social Services, Security, Transportation, Fiscal and other services of operation.

Clients in Unit 1 reside in this building.
The Observation & Care Unit (OCU) and the Central Treatment Room (CTR) are located here as well.
There are eleven residential units, located in six buildings. Enclosed patios adjoin each of the units.
Except for those individuals who require on-going medical attention, all of our residents live in one story buildings. Bedrooms for one or two adjoin a centralized activity room. Each residential unit contains a dining room.
All of the buildings are accessible via walkways.

There is a sports pavilion located behind Bldg. 5.
During favorable weather, cookouts and a variety of sport activities are held at the pavilion.

A perimeter roadway accesses the rear of each of the buildings. Designated staff parking is available along this perimeter.
A barrier-free nature trail is located inside the perimeter walkway. A variety of observation platforms and gazebos, as well as numerous benches are available along the trail.

The nature trail and surrounding woodlands are home to a variety of birds, as well as squirrels, rabbits, ducks, deer, fox (and cats).

The NVTC Gymnasium contains a basketball court, a stage and a weight training room. Adjacent to the gym is the heated, indoor/outdoor swimming pool.

On the units meals are heated and then served in the dining rooms. On many units clients assist in the serving of meals and mealtime clean-up. Outside cooking grills are also available.

Each unit has two "dayrooms" or livingrooms, with comfortable furniture and entertainment centers. Clients spend their leisure time here, interacting with other clients and with staff.
